Toyota sports cars are less known than the regular versions of cars from this company. However, the model line includes iconic examples that are remembered by racers and loyal fans of the brand.
Iconic car models
For sports cars, in addition to speed, maneuverability, controllability, and suspension reliability are important. These are the parameters that manufacturers work on on models of this type in order to then implement them in the production of regular versions. Sports brands also strengthen the company’s prestige.
For all the years of production, Toyota has the following car models:
- The GR Supra is already the fifth reincarnation of the famous model, which first entered the market in the 70s. The 2020 car has a streamlined, dynamic body, equipped with a three-liter turbocharged engine developed by BMW. The power plant develops 355 horsepower and is capable of accelerating the car to 60 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds. The maximum speed is limited by electronic systems to 155 miles per hour.
- Toyota GR86 is another modern model that entered the market in 2021. It is a representative of the second generation of cars in this series. This is a 2 + 2 coupe with two doors and a 2.4-liter engine. It develops a power of 224 hp and the car reaches a speed of 140 miles per hour.
- One of the iconic cars of the racing series in rally was the Toyota Celica Supra, produced in 1981-1985. At that time, the car had an advanced design with pop-up headlights, a sloping hood, which was then adopted by almost all passenger sports models of the decade.
- The fourth generation of Toyota Supra was produced in 1994-1998. The design of the cars became a transition between the old options and modern ones. The angular body was replaced by streamlined shapes. The three-liter twin-turbocharged engine produced 320 horsepower. The maximum speed of 155 km/h was limited by electronics, without this the car could accelerate much more.
- Toyota Corolla Sport GT-S was a unique drift car. This type of motor sport is extremely popular in Japan and the USA, the car has won many prizes on both sides of the ocean.
- Toyota GT86 of 2012-2021 was not focused on racing, but provided ordinary drivers with impressions of sporty driving.
- The first Japanese supercar is called Toyota 2000 GT, produced in the period 1967-1970.
